Roles & Responsibilities
The course covers 42.195km of road throughout Sydney with volunteers posted around the entire course.
Course work-teams are made up of Managers, Supervisors, Team Leaders, and Crew along with various other Event Staff who all support one another to deliver an excellent event to all participants. On-course roles include Drink Station Crews, Course Marshal Crews and Live Site Crews.
This role is suitable for people with previous TL and event day experience who wish to take on an increased level of responsibility. You must be available to attend a mandatory evening training/briefing session prior to event day to gain further information about your role & responsibilities as a TL.
The Drink Station Team Leader’s (DS-TL) role is to work with the DS Manager and coordinate and instruct crew members to successfully set up, operate, & clean up the assigned DS. The TL will act as the first point of contact for providing operational information to crew members. They will be required to lead the DS volunteer crew and provide drinks/refreshments from the first to the last participant that passes their station.
This role requires you to check-in and provide support for the DS Crew where required. The 2IC works closely with the DS-TL and DS Manager at each station, as well as liaising with the DS Volunteer Manager via radio about numbers and overall operations. The 2IC will assist with the distribution of volunteer t-shirts, caps & snack packs.
You must be available to attend a mandatory evening training/briefing session prior to the event day to gain further information about your role & responsibilities as a 2IC.
The DS Crew are the ‘engine’ of the station and are there to ‘make it work’. The DS crew will set-up, operate, and clean up the water or Personal Refreshment Station. Crew will provide water and/or refreshment drinks to all runners as they pass. As a crew member you will be supported by the DS Manager, TL & 2IC.
Drink Stations
There are Drink Stations (DS) located around the course, some catering for specific race participants and some catering for all race participants. The Drink Stations are classified as either a Water Station or a Personal Refreshment Station (PRS). A Personal Refreshment Station provides water as well as Elite Athletes’ personal drinks.

As a Workforce Support, your responsibilities will involve checking-in all volunteers using Rosterfy on your phone or other device, handing out volunteer resources (such as food, water, shirts, and caps), and checking on the welfare of your team throughout their shift. You will be required to report to the Volunteer Management team if you have a shortage of volunteers so that, where possible, volunteers can be replaced.
For any course-relate issues, report these to your Course Zone Supervisor or Course Zone Supervisor Assistant.

The CS-TL is a very important position along the course. The TL is required to help the Course Workforce Support in deploying the Course Marshal Crew to key locations along the course and provide specific information to the Course Crew about their job specific to that point.
The CM-C are to follow the instructions from their Course Workforce Support, Team Leader, or Supervisor. The CM-C’s job varies depending on the exact work location and environment. The CM-C’s will help the Course Workforce Support and the TL set-up, operate and maintain the sector. You will also give directions and encouragement to participants. Crew will also need to ensure their immediate area is clean and free of obstacles.
You are invited to attend a recommended evening training/briefing session prior to event day to gain further information about your role & responsibilities, however, this is not mandatory.
Course Marshals
The Course Marshals are located sporadically around the course. Each zone is split into numerous sectors for a small team of Course Marshals who will ensure the area is correctly set up and maintained. Course Marshals also provide directional assistance and encouragement to participants.

Course Marshal / Course Crew (Volunteer)
The Meet & Greet Crew will be responsible for engaging with spectators as they move around the site, providing information on amenities, such as bathrooms, and encouraging them to engage with on-site entertainment.
Every Live Site will have a booth where spectators can create their own motivational signs to cheer on runners as they pass through the site. Motivational Signs Crew will be responsible for running these booths by assisting spectators in creating their signs and making suggestions for designs.
Live Sites
Live Sites are locations which will have a live display of the marathon on a big screen. Four Live Sites (LS) will be created for the marathon, all with a different theme and atmosphere which will be created through a range of entertainment.
